Video Tutorials

We have created the following step-by-step video demos to walk you through the setup process.

Domains
What name servers do I use?

Any domain names you wish to use on Comwired must be pointed to the following nameservers from your domain name registrar:

ns1.elv8.net
ns2.elv8.net

How do I add domain names to my account?
  1. Login to your account.
  2. Click the "Add domain" button on the upper right hand side of the screen.
  3. Choose one of the following:
    a. Add to group – To add domains to a group that will share the same settings.
    b. Manual config – To add domains to the system and specify settings for each one individually.
  4. Input the domains that you wish to add to the system into the box.
  5. Hit "Submit" to add the domain(s) to the system.
  6. All of your domain names should now be listed under the Domains tab in the menu.
  7. Click on the domain name that you want to modify.
  8. Pick the different regions of the world that you want to set up traffic rules for. If you don’t see a specific region already built for you, you can click the “Create a country group” button in order to build your own.
  9. Now that all of your regions are added, choose the parking companies that you want to send your regional traffic to.
  10. Make sure you update your nameservers records to point to our nameservers:
    ns1.elv8.net
    ns2.elv8.net
Groups
How do I set up groups?

Groups let you apply pre-configured settings to a set of domain names.

  1. Login to your account.
  2. Click on the "Groups" link in the top menu.
  3. Click on the "Create group" link in the left column.
  4. You will be asked to give your new group a name. Input the name of your group and then click "Save."
  5. Now that you have created a new group, assign the region settings that will be applied to the group. Remember, any domain name that you assign to this group will inherit these settings.

Configuration
How do I configure a domain name to use directional DNS?

Choose Manual or Group config. By following the on-screen instructions, you will be able to select the parking provider you wish to use for each geo-location.

How do I create a geographical preset?

  1. Login to your account
  2. From the Overview page, click "Create country group" on the left. This page can also be accessed through the "Country groups" tab in the menu.
  3. Fill in the name of what you would like to call this group in the "Name" field.
  4. Highlight the country/countries that you would like to be included in this group.
  5. Click "Save."

Network
How are Comwired's DNS servers distributed?

We have implemented a network technology called anycast which allows us to keep the same network hosted from many different geographically distributed locations while still servicing the same IP space. For example, we have the network 8.20.241.x which can be hosted by servers in England, Spain, Germany, Chicago, Brazil, India, Dallas and Seattle all at the same time while distributing load and mitigating DDOS attacks. As we deploy to more networks we will cover more backbones and shorten the metric with an ever-expanding network.

Reports
How often are reports generated?

The reports are dynamically generated throughout the day. As they come in, there are back-end services that try to pick them up. This system scales to the load, so it is difficult at the moment to define a precise time or frequency for the reports. The monthly, quarterly and yearly reports begin being executed typically around 6 am GMT, however when they complete can vary day to day.

Billing
What happens if I run out of queries?

We understand how important it is that your domains stay online. If you exceed your allotment of queries, you can choose to upgrade to the next largest service level. You only pay the different between your current service level and the new level. In the event that you do not upgrade, an overage fee of $1 per 1,000 DNS queries will be applied to your next month's invoice.
